This interesting piece of news was tucked away in a corner in today’s METRO newspaper. See what you make of it.

A DIY worker tricked his way into public office in Nigeria to defraud his state of £160million, a court heard yesterday. James Ibori was a cashier at a store in Middlesex when he moved to Nigeria and worked his way up the political ranks to become Delta state governor in 1999. Ibori, believed to be 49, allegedly used a false date of birth during elections to hide past convictions and stole money using state-owned shares in a mobile-phone company. He was trying to buy a plane for £20million when he was arrested. Ibori, of Primrose Hill in north London, admitted fraud and money laundering. He will be sentenced at Southwark crown court in April.

Only in Nigeria can this happen…..
