He added that he was surprised that the former President could oppose the proposed N5,000 note given that the high currency denominations in the country, including N1000 note, came into being during his (Obasanjo) regime.

The flight data recorder (FDR) of Dana Air flight 0992, which crashed on June 3 at Iju-Ishaga, a Lagos suburb, killing over 160 people, has been confirmed to have been intact when it was discovered two days after the accident. Initial reports, shortly after the accident, had claimed that the FDR was destroyed by the post-crash fire.

Indications emerged Tuesday that Air Nigeria has allegedly abandoned many Nigerian passengers in the United Kingdom. The abandoned passengers, now struggling to raise air fares in the UK to return home, had purchased return tickets beyond September 10, before Jimoh Ibrahim, owner of the airline summarily sacked about 800 workers and grounded his airline Monday. It is estimated that close to a thousand people might be affected by the sudden decision of Air Nigeria to stop flying.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday evening returned to Abuja from his two-nation state visit to Malawi and Bostwana. He returned 24 hours ahead of his scheduled Wednesday arrival date. His arrival ahead of schedule further increased the speculation over the state of health of his wife, Patience, who is believed to be undergoing treatment in a German hospital.
