The governing party may have fooled a majority of Nigerians with a borrowed slogan from Obama to bamboozle Nigerians, they wouldn’t fool me again with another slogan “Change-Begins-with-Me”, a 21st-century message re-worded from John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address. His famous words were “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
The difference is that JFK backed up his words with action. Buhari hasn’t, appears he can’t or he wouldn’t. I don’t know which is which. He is surrounded by slogan experts, people who appear to specialise in not walking the talk. He is running the economy to aground and appears neither to have any clue on how to untangle the web of deception within his party or the economy. We have seen his cohorts on social media redefining what RECESSION really means.
No minister in his administration is bold enough to stand up and be counted, let alone resign his position because of the path Buhari is taking Nigeria. The economy is weak on its knees. The currency – Naira, is weeping for help. Foreign companies are withdrawing their Investments.
The interesting thing is this; Come a year’s time, when electioneering begins, the country would be awash with funds to bribe Nigerians, and the ever forgetful Nigerians would suspend their sorrows, vote in the nincompoops, and the complaints resume. This is the story of Nigeria. Weep Not. God Almighty, I can imagine, appears to be folding his hands in astonishment, shaking his head in lamentation. – Jide Salu
Below is a report on how APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun urged Nigerians to warm on on APC’s latest slogan. Personally, I will advice never to be fooled again.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday felicitated with Muslim Faithful over the Eid el-Kabir season and urged all Nigerians to embrace the “Change-Begins-with-Me” campaign.
This is contained in a statement signed by the APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun.
Mr. Odigie-Oyegun urged Muslims and all Nigerians to use the Sallah occasion to show love, promote harmonious and peaceful co-existence with one another, irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliation.
He urged Nigerians to pray for the peace and quick recovery of the nation’s economy.
“Muslim Faithful and indeed all Nigerians are enjoined to use the occasion of Eid el-Kabir to pray for the peace, development and prosperity of the country,” he said.
He called on Nigerians to support the administration to pull the country out of the present hardship and restore the country on the path of growth in all facets.
“Indeed, Nigeria is today passing through challenging times in its socio-economic life.
“Happily, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration is already employing all legitimate and innovative means to restore the country’s battered economy to health in the quickest possible time.
“In a bold move to repair our value system that has been badly eroded over the years, on Sept. 8, President Muhammadu Buhari launched the laudable national re-orientation campaign, “Change Begins with Me’’.
“The party appeals to all Nigerians to be part of this campaign which will institutionalise the best practice and time-honoured values of honesty, hard work, patriotism, abhorrence of corruption, accountability and integrity in our everyday life,” he said.
