Reuben Abati, Arrested By EFCC.

Not sure what these arrests are all about. Has Reuben been arrested or invited for questioning? Personally, I believe EFCC is officially an arm of the political party in power. EFCC is used to witch hunt former political office holders or political opponents. They are no longer a trustworthy organisation to be reckoned with. If Reuben has been found to be guilty in any misappropriation, so be it. But after this headline and nothing becomes of it, what is the point? I trust Reuben to come out with a detailed narration of what this arrest or questioning is all bout. All shall be revealed soon.

Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency has arrested Reuben Abati, who was the former spokesman for ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

“We have arrested Reuben Abati and he is undergoing interrogation in connection with some issues bordering on graft,” Economic and Financial Crimes Commission spokesman Wilson Uwuajaren told the AFP news agency.

Another EFCC official, who asked not to be named, said Mr Abati was “being questioned in relation to [an] ongoing investigation into the misappropriation of funds earmarked for arms to fight Boko Haram”, AFP reports.

Mr Abati is a popular columnist and former chairman of the editorial board of Nigeria’s Guardian newspaper before joining Mr Jonathan’s government in 2011.

President Muhammudu Buhari has launched a wide-ranging campaign against corruption since his inauguration last year.

A number of prominent officials from the previous government have been arrested and put on trial, but some accuse the president of only targeting the opposition.
