SHOCKING: Huge debts await Buhari, in-coming govs; Lagos State most indebted with $2 billion.

State-debts-jide-saluAFTER the euphoria of their electoral victories, one of the major challenges that will confront the President-elect, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), and 20 or 21 new governors is the level of debt stock the out-going administrations will leave behind.

According to the Debt Management Office, DMO, the Federal Government has a stock of $6.445 billion in external debt (N1.29 trillion at the rate of one dollar to N200)) and another N7. 9 trillion domestic debt totalling N9.19 trillion, as of December 31, 2014. This is the equivalent of two years budget.

The huge debt stock, if not properly managed, can hamper the delivery of democracy dividends.

Fashola-jide-saluAccording to external debt figures released by the DMO, Lagos State is the most indebted state in the country with a debt of $1,169,712,848.65 (N233.94 billion). The state had also borrowed N167.5 billion from the bond market. Thus, Lagos is owing at least N401.44 billion. This is one of the issues that Governor-elect, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode will confront when he takes over from Governor Babatunde Fashola, next month.

Among the 29 states where governorship elections were held last Saturday, new persons will take over in 20 states, if Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State is re-elected after the April 25 supplementary elections otherwise the number of newcomers will be 21.

The other states where fresh men will take over are Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Lagos, Niger, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto and Taraba.

VIDEO: How David Cameron wooed Black Voters at Redeem’s Festival of Life in UK; and why UKIP is a Danger to Blacks in UK ….

David-Cameron-Adeboye-jide-salu9I must certainly would get some christian fanatics criticise me for this. Don’t let us kid ourselves here, Prime Minister David Cameron’s appearance at last night’s Festival of Life UK which took place at the Royal Victoria Dock, 1 Western Gateway, London E16 1XL, hosted by the ever respectful General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E. A. Adeboye spoke volumes in so many ways. So, David Cameron beat Ed Miliband to it, by attending the biggest Christian meeting  attended by black indigenes in the United Kingdom. It was all about wooing black voters if we are sincerely honest here. Nothing bad with that.

Scroll down to watch Video.

I must take this opportunity to encourage Black Voters in UK to go out and exercise their right. I often wondered why Nigerians and Afro-Carribean Brits need to be convinced to get out and vote. Unlike Nigeria where registering to vote was made an ordeal, it couldn’t have been more easier to register in the UK.

The deadline for registration is Monday, 20th April. If you are qualified to vote, I urge you to register now. The beauty of it is that you do not need to queue under the scorching sun like Nigerians did weeks ago. You can register online. I really will encourage all British residents to.

I don’t care if you vote Conservative and Unionist Party, Labour Party, Liberal DemocratsDemocratic Unionist PartyGreen Party, Scottish National PartyPlaid Cymru – Party of WalesLiberal DemocratsSinn Féin, etc That is for you to decide. However, what I am certain of is your nonchalant attitude to the British democratic process will give rise to the racist UKIP party.

What you may not be aware of is the rise and influence of this party and what the repercussions are to ethnic minorities in UK.

UKIP, led by former Conservative member Nigel Fafage is the modernised racist BNP party. Any African that is entitled to vote and chooses not to will indirectly have voted for UKIP, and this is extremely dangerous. Nigel-Farage-jide-salu

Below are some of Nigel Farage’s controversial views on life.

Deport migrants – Mark Reckless, the Ukip candidate in the Rochester and Strood by-election, has raised the prospect of European migrants being forced to leave Britain if Ukip wins power. Mr Reckless said workers from the continent would only be allowed to stay in Britain for a fixed “transitional period” under Ukip plans to end unrestricted migration from the rest of Europe. He said the party would be willing to “look sympathetically” at people who have “integrated”.The remarks were seized upon by rival candidates as evidence that Ukip wants to make migrants “go back” to their home countries. A spokesman for Mr Reckless insisted the proposal was “common sense” and “humane”, and insisted he does not want to “round people up for summary deportation”.

Speak English on trains – Is it ‘awkward’ when people don’t speak English or should you just book a quiet carriage ticket? Nigel Farage has suggested that people should speak English on trains in Britain as lots of foreigners speaking different languages can make people feel “awkward”.  He said: “It was a stopper going out and we stopped at London Bridge, New Cross, Hither Green, it was not till we got past Grove Park that I could hear English being audibly spoken in the carriage. Does that make me feel slightly awkward? Yes it does.”  “I wonder what’s really going on. And I’m sure that’s a view that will be reflected by three quarters of the population, perhaps even more.”  Mr Farage insisted he was not anti-immigration but said Britain should be able to limit the ‘quality and quantity’ of migrants.

Bar HIV positive people from the UK– In an interview in Newsweek Europe, Mr Farage said he wanted to “control the quantity and quality of people who come… people who do not have HIV”. Mr Farage later told the BBC he would extend the ban to “people with tuberculosis too”.  Campaigners later condemned Mr Farage’s views. However, Mr Farage defended his comments saying the UK’s public services could not cope with extra demand created by people with severe medical conditions coming to Britain.
